Warrior

Featuring Eastern Owl

Spring/Fall 2019

The Warrior project began as a concert collaboration with Eastern Owl, an Indigenous-led all nations group of women based in St. John’s. Through the exploration of song and sisterhood, a deep respect, dialogue and exchange began to develop. This process of learning, sharing music, and exploring reconciliation, allowed us to come to a deeper understanding of the lives of Indigenous people in our country – it was a most impactful experience for Lady Cove.

The song “Warrior”, by Kim Baryluk of the Wyrd Sisters, became the anthem of this collaboration. Modified to include Indigenous chant and lyrics that better aligned with the experiences of Indigenous women, it is the hope of both groups that this work will inspire and empower women to keep fighting for gender equity, as well as continue to look out for each other, and lift each other up.
